New Mexico's "traditional" waiver, where contracted provider agencies deliver services and a case manager coordinates.

The division that runs both waivers. It used to sit in the Department of Health and is now part of the New Mexico Health Care Authority.

The person who directs Mi Via workers and vendors: hiring, scheduling, supervision. For a child this is normally the parent or guardian. The role itself is not paid.

The forms where you choose. The Primary Freedom of Choice picks your program (DD Waiver or Mi Via) after an allocation. A Secondary Freedom of Choice picks your case management or consultant agency.

The state department that now contains DDSD and New Mexico Medicaid. Its website is hca.nm.gov. It absorbed the old Human Services Department and took DDSD from the Department of Health.

The family of Medicaid waivers that pay for support at home and in the community instead of in an institution. Both the DD Waiver and Mi Via are HCBS waivers, authorized under section 1915(c).

The maximum Mi Via funding available, based on age and level of care, with separate limits for ages 0 to 17, 18 to 21, and 21 and over. The ceiling, not the approved amount.

The institutional setting a waiver is an alternative to. Eligibility requires showing your child needs this level of care, which is why the assessment is called a level of care determination.

A process and written report used before community supports and employment services, to work out what supports a person actually needs to take part or to work.
